Why Mallorca matters now
Mallorca matters because it gives Spain an island chapter with real golfing substance. Alcanada and Son Gual are not interchangeable resort rounds. They are two distinct, high-quality courses that together make the island worth planning around.
That matters editorially because Spain becomes more convincing when its premium story extends beyond the southern mainland and one northern resort cluster.
Chapter 02
The two-course logic
Alcanada is the more scenic and more Atlantic-feeling of the pair, all bay views, lighthouse images, and wind-sensitive strategy. Son Gual is the polished inland counterpoint, closer to Palma, more immaculate, and more championship in its internal challenge. Together they give the island range.
Trying to understand Mallorca through only one of them leaves the story incomplete.

Chapter 03
How to plan the stay
Use Palma for arrival, departure, and the stronger city dinners. Move north if Alcanada is central to the week or if the trip wants more beach and quieter evenings. For shorter stays, choose one base and accept a longer drive once rather than changing hotel every night.
The island is only easy if you respect the transfer times and the seasonal traffic patterns.
Chapter 04
Who Mallorca suits best
It is especially good for couples, mixed groups, and travellers who need the destination to offer much more than golf. The island's hotel, dining, and beach infrastructure are already elite-level. The stronger golf just gives the whole place a better spine.
Single-minded architecture purists may still prioritise other parts of Spain. That does not diminish Mallorca's premium travel usefulness.
Chapter 05
My Mallorca answer
Treat the island as a two-course premium region with Palma as the cultural engine and the north as the scenic golf half. Do that and Mallorca quickly looks like one of Spain's smartest luxury golf additions.
Treat it as golf squeezed into a beach holiday and the value disappears.
